Power Sequencing For Churches

Simplifying Church Tech: The Power of Lowell’s Power Sequencing Solution

Hey everyone, Jake here. Today, I’m diving into one of my favorite power sequencing systems for churches, the Lowell Power Sequencer. Power sequencing isn’t the flashiest topic, but having the right setup can make a massive difference in keeping your gear organized and your services running smoothly. So I’m excited to walk you through this system that we’ve been using for quite some time now.

What’s Power Sequencing, and Why Does It Matter?

If you’re not familiar with power sequencing, it’s basically a way to turn all of your gear on and off in the correct order. This matters because, with audio-visual setups, starting or shutting down equipment in the wrong order can cause issues, like speaker pops or signal interruptions. With one simple press of a button, our Lowell system powers everything on in the ideal sequence, from video to audio gear to amplifiers, keeping it all safe and smooth.

Front of House Control

At front of house, we have a small rocker switch behind the mixing console that controls the entire system. Pressing this button begins the shutdown or startup process, with each stage of equipment turning on or off at a set interval. First, the amplifiers, then the mixing console, and finally the video infrastructure. This setup means our team can quickly and safely power down after services with one action instead of manually switching everything off.

The Sequencer at Work

Our main control is Lowell’s SC QR-P4 sequencer, which we mounted in the equipment rack. This model is our go-to because it offers four steps of sequencing, allowing flexibility to tailor power-up sequences for all the gear. Each step lights up as the power turns on, starting with the video infrastructure, then audio processing, and finally the amplifiers. This setup keeps the workflow simple and protects the system from any overload.

RPC Units for Easy Control

A big advantage of this system is its RPC (Remote Power Control) units. These little devices are installed in different equipment racks, giving us control over individual power circuits. The RPCs come with pass-through capabilities, so we can daisy chain units and even assign each one to a different sequencing step. This flexibility makes it easy to manage power distribution as our setups change over time without rewiring the entire system.

RJ45 Locking Connectors and Pass-Through Benefits

One of my favorite parts of the Lowell system is the locking RJ45 connectors. These are not only secure but also give us a lot of flexibility in setup. With other sequencers, changing the sequence order means rewiring. But with Lowell’s design, it’s a simple configuration change on the RPC unit. This design keeps things adaptable without needing a complex setup or hours of extra work.

Why the Lowell Power Sequencer is Our Top Pick

Having used several power sequencing systems, I keep returning to this Lowell model because it combines reliability with easy setup. Its design suits many different church setups, from large, multi-space systems to smaller portable configurations. And with Lowell’s reliable power distribution, I know our gear is protected.

If you’re ready to simplify power management at your church, I highly recommend exploring a setup like this. We’re passionate about helping churches like yours make the most of their technology, so reach out if you’d like our team to assist with your installation. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for more tech solutions to help enhance your ministry.
